All women end up needing some maternity clothes during pregnancy. Some end up having to go with maternity wear 3-4 months into the pregnancy, while others don’t need to until 6 months into their pregnancy. Of course, every woman is different, but you’ll probably need a nice maternity wardrobe at some point. As you are searching for the right clothes, remember that more than your stomach changes while you are pregnant. Your hips, chest, butt, arms, and even your feet are going to see some changes.
The great news is that plenty of maternity wear options are available, so you can look great and feel comfortable without sacrificing style. You won’t have to don ugly pants or tent-like dresses anymore. Plenty of casual options can be found so you’ll look and feel amazing all the time. Here are just a few of the options you’ll probably want to add to your maternity wardrobe.
Maternity Jeans
One of the best casual options in maternity wear happens to be maternity jeans. More than likely, your regular jeans are going to get tight pretty fast. During the first trimester you may begin noticing that your jeans are too tight because of bloating and near the end of the first trimester that baby bump will be starting to appear as well. Maternity jeans are designed in stylish options, such as skinny jeans. They are just designed to add more material through the middle to accommodate your growing stomach. In most cases, you’ll probably want to purchase your normal size in jeans, since they will be designed to accommodate the changes in your body.
Under the Bump Pants
While many pants are designed to go over the baby bump, you’ll find that under the bump pants are becoming a popular option in maternity wear today. These pants are designed to fit snugly right under the baby bump. Most have waistbands that are adjustable as well, so you can adjust them as you get bigger throughout pregnancy. They are even a comfortable choice right after pregnancy as well.
Jersey Panels
Some of the most comfortable pants you’ll find when looking for maternity wear include those that have jersey panels on them. Often the top of the pants have a jersey panel that is attached to the top of the pants and it can be pulled up over the baby bump. This is a style that is wonderful no matter what stage of pregnancy you are in. However, as you get larger throughout the pregnancy, it can be especially helpful because it can offer your stomach some support. Just remember, pants with jersey panels are designed to be worn with long tops so the panel is covered by the top that you are wearing.
Maternity Tops
Of course, you won’t want to forget to have a variety of maternity tops available in your maternity wear wardrobe. You’ll quickly find that many styles and options are available in maternity tops. If you are planning to go with under the bump pants or pants with jersey panels, you’ll want longer styles, such as tunics, when choosing your tops. While long and flowing tops are popular, you don’t have to always go with these styles. You’ll find that more form fitting styles are available in maternity tops as well. They can be form fitting everywhere else while offering extra room in the stomach area for you. Baby doll tops and empire waist tops can be beautiful options that look beautiful and feel comfortable.
Casual Maternity Dresses
Having some maternity formal wear is definitely in order, but you’ll want to ensure you have some nice casual maternity dresses as well. Some women try to wear dresses that aren’t maternity dresses. While some may allow you to get away with this for awhile, often this can cause the dress to ride up because the material is getting pulled up by your stomach. This is why purchasing maternity dresses is a good idea. During the summer, go with some sun dresses, which come in sleeveless options that will look beautiful and casual. Casual dresses can be extremely comfortable too because you don’t have to worry about a waistband around your waste. Choosing flowing styles, but avoid going with dresses that are too big or they’ll look sloppy on you.
Maternity Coats
One item of clothing that many pregnant women never think about is maternity coats. If you are going through your largest stage of pregnancy during the winter, you’ll definitely want to ensure you buy this maternity wear. Once you get into the end of your 2nd trimester and into your 3rd trimester, you’ll probably find that your coat doesn’t really fit over your baby bump. It’s important to stay warm, so you’ll want to look for some jackets and coats that are designed for pregnancy women. Usually just one coat will be enough. If you don’t want to purchase a maternity coat, consider wearing layers or going with a large shawl or wrap to keep you warm. Sometimes you can find coats that have removable panels so you can wear them during pregnancy and then during after pregnancy as well.
